Mark was founding and managing partner of Berley Chartered Accountants in 1985. Berley had two partners with twenty-five professional staff in London. The firm was one of the first independent London firms to outsource to India in 2005. Berley was a general practice, specialising in advising SME clients and taking a holistic approach to their affairs.
With a passion for travel, Mark set up the firm's informal international association with other accounting firms in twenty locations across five continents. He was instrumental in Berley becoming the first accounting member of an international legal network with ninety members, in the belief that multidisciplinary firms were the future for the professions. Mark lectured to other accountants in the United Kingdom, America and South Africa on practice marketing and practice management for over 30 years. Berley was sold to a consolidator in February 2021.
Since February 2021, Mark has taken on several non-executive directorships and consultancy positions, using his wealth of commercial and tax knowledge across sectors including property, education, hospitality, retail, sport management, and logistics.
Mark is a great believer in education for all ages — in the belief that if you give a man a fish, he will have a meal; if you teach him how to fish, he will never go hungry.
