After following various career paths (in banking, investor relations and executive search), which left even me confused, I studied for a degree in law as a mature student. I then completed a Master’s Degree, before working as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Huddersfield. I had finally found what I loved!
During my 23 years at the University of Huddersfield, I enjoyed teaching Criminal and Medical Law, my research on consent and autonomy, and travelling to India as part of the International Recruitment team. I also spent several years on the ethics committee of a local hospital trust. Since leaving Huddersfield I have retrained as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor and am currently working at a Sixth Form College as well as in the process of setting up my own practice. I currently also volunteer as an associate counsellor with Cruse bereavement services, a CPD counsellor with UCHM and as support to families with Home-Start.
Interests
I am a keen advocate of higher education and know from personal experience how it can broaden one’s outlook and open doors to further opportunities. I believe that we should never let go of curiosity and the thirst for learning and that it is important to create an environment which nurtures that. An avid reader I could spend a whole day in a bookshop, I also love walking the dog where I live in West Yorkshire, meeting up with friends, and attempting to garden with a lot of enthusiasm but limited knowledge.
